About Intro To Programming:
Have you ever thought about learning to code but weren't sure how to get started? Maybe you've wanted to market your business or yourself, or have an idea for an online-based startup? Let's meet and explore the fundamentals of programming! You'll learn how to write code, follow best-practices, and develop a mindset that will enable you to quickly learn new technologies. We will start by learning how the web works. We'll then learn programming basics by working with the HTML and CSS languages to create a simple website. From there, we'll learn how to store data in the "cloud" via databases, in order to create dynamic web applications that can process data. Finally, we'll learn how to make your code viewable to others by "deploying" to a web server. The type of website / application we build will be largely influenced by the interests of the attendees, in an effort to make the final product relevant to everyone who attends.
Requirements for Participation:
Everyone should have their own laptop, and should have the ability to install programs on that laptop. We'll all be working on a single project together. However, everyone will have a bit of flexibility to put their own touch on the final product.
Laptops will ideally have a dual processor, but people could get by with a single core. Basically, any laptop made in the past 5-6 years should work wonderfully. We won't be doing anything too processor intensive.
Five scholarships of one hundred dollars each are offered to area families who might not otherwise be able to afford the course. While the class is open to the general public, scholarships are restricted to middle and high school children in the Estes Valley. The scholarship reduces the cost from $165 to $65. Interested families should contact Outreach Program Coordinator Karen McPherson at firstname.lastname@example.org.
